All That Running Paid Off [01 Nov 2009|08:43pm]
Had intended to stay in last night but got a phone call inviting me down to a house party in Belfast. Had to throw together a costume so I put on a suit with my superman t-shirt beneath to go as Clark Kent. Got quite a few laughs with it. Paddy was Wayne of Wayne's World and Claire had a fantastic Doc Brown from Back To The Future.

The party was great. Everyone was commenting on how much weight I'd lost and all the girls were throwing me signals. I knocked back a few (several beers and just clicked into a steady stream of quips and jokes. Left looking cool, undone tie with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a lolly pop in the other.

Went with Pad and Claire to see the Michael Jackson movie, it was a lot better than I expected. Particularly impressed by They Don't Care About Us.

So I'm feeling pretty good about myself. Through running and cutting down on what I eat I've slimmed noticeably and as a result I'm much more confident in myself. On top of that I think I'm finally getting over THAT girl. So, onwards and upwards.

Paul.

Settling In [24 Oct 2009|12:21am]
Back home for the weekend. Bought 24 season 7 and I'm just going to sit about watching it. Have been eating less recently and have lost about half a stone. Found a route to run near my house in Dunshauglin and am trying to keep that up when the weather is good (only managed to get out once this week). Working 7am - 7pm so I'm making a bit more money. Ploughing through my James Bond books (just finished Thunderball, moving on to The Spy Who Loved Me).

Me and another fellow were working together when a heavy steel sheet fell. I was quick enough to catch part of it, he wasn't so lucky. The edge caught his hand between the index and middle finger, sliced right through. Got some bandages around it, foreman drove him to A&E. He had to have nerves reattached, I hope there's no lasting damage. Either way he won't be working for a while.

I feel weird about it. We were both standing to opposite ends of the sheet, yet I didn't even get a scratch. I feel almost guilty in a way. When he was gone and a couple of guys made a few jokes ("he won't be playing x-box tonight") and proceeded to eat his packed lunch I just sat there a bit stunned.

I am thinking of being a Ghostbuster for Halloween.

Been working in Mullingar. Heading down to Dunshauglin Monday. Off to England next week. Bit stressed by all the travelling and driving. Money problems. Slowing pushing that whole unrequited love notion out of my head. Currently drunk.

Last night I had a dream in which me and Patrick Swayze were putting new tyres on a car. I told him he was a cool person when he was alive. He seemed to appreciate the compliment. Odd.

Dogasaurus [31 Aug 2009|12:34am]
Stayed over at a mates house last night. Work up early and started walking back to my car. Halfway down the road a big massive Rotweiller ran out in front of me. Ended up being chased a good distance by it.

I considered it was probably just wanting to play and was all "Why are are you running away new friend? Oh God, I'm a monster!" but then again it's equally possible it was planning on eating my knee caps. Plus I hear they go for the groin. Yeah, I'm glad I ran.

Sarah: Oh my God Ryan! What happened?
Ryan: Fell on my ankle, sprained it. Paul took me to A&E. It's all swollen up, look.
(he rolls up his trouser leg)
Sarah: Oh my God Ryan! It's so big!
(sniggering heard from the kitchen)
Sarah: What's so funny Paul?
Me: That's first time a girl has ever said that to Ryan!

RESET [19 Aug 2009|05:46pm]
[ mood | embarrassed ]
[ music | Turn Me Loose- Loverboy ]

Can we start again? I got home ridiculously drunk on Friday night, in a bit of a wierd mood and I don't even remember writing that journal entry. I always intended this journal to be kind of jokey and self deprecating, not somewhere to dump all my problems. Anyway, I'm man, I don't have feelings! :p

I stopped writing last year because I went through a bit of a bad patch and didn't feel like writing about it. By the time all that was over I'd fallen out of the habit. I'd think about writing every now and then, but convince myself that I'd left it too long. You haven't missed much but here's some things that happened (off the top of my head):

-Still working away at TES Electrics. Back in February they put me out on site doing telemetry and now I sort of bounce back and forth between site work and the workshop.

-I got my nose broken in a bar brawl before Christmas. I was trying to break up a fight and the guy whacked me as I was holding another guy back. I gave him a broken nose back. Got home, saw it was a bit bent so I reset it, quite painful. There's a slight angle but you'd never notice it.

-Got 2 cats, Jack and Poppy. Never really was a cat person but they grew on me. Oh, and crapped on my bed once.

-My car was hit by a fella driving too fast on a country lane. Few scrapes and dents but the moron turned around and accused me of being at fault. It's going to court in September, I can't wait to get it sorted out.

-I lost most of my top right incisor while playing airsoft in England. It hurt a lot but I got some nice dental work done, my teeth ended up looking better.

Anyway, I guess it'd be nice to use this as a kickstart to posting a bit more regularly.
Paul.

At The Wedding [02 Sep 2008|12:07am]
Claire(Paddy's girlfriend): What do you think Paul?
Paul (slightly dazed): Huh? The chicken's pretty good.
Claire: Not the chicken Paul. That girl over there, she's got a great ass (on a sidenote, god bless you Claire)
Paul: I dunno, she looks kind of young.
Claire: She looks legal to me.
Paul: Oh. Then I guess I would cautiously tap that.

Spent most of today relaxing and reccuperating after the stag weekend. Think I'll write about it tomorrow. It was nothing short of epic.

Read through Terry Pratchett's The Last Hero.

Watched Season 2 of Heroes. It was okay but nowhere near as good as the first one.

Red Hammer [04 Aug 2008|09:05pm]
[ mood | tired ]

Alright, big goddamn post with pictures (a combination of my camera phone during play and some photographers capturing the event) coming your way!

I've been planning to go to the big Red Hammer event at Camp Predator in Ballynahinch for a couple of months. It's a 2 day battle with a storyline (Alternate 1993, Soviets vs UN), rolling objectives and pyrotechnics.

I got up early on Saturday morning, chucked everything in the car and landed at Predator for 9am. Once the 2 teams were sorted we began to divide ourselves into squads and sort out comms channels. I accepted the medic role for my squad, Fire Team Alpha. Our first objective was to take hold of "Camp Jedi" and hold it to use as our operating point.

Crap. Y'know what? I suck big time. Stuff has been happening and I haven't really written about it. People left comments and I didn't bother to reply. I don't comment enough anymore.

You would be forgiven for thinking, "Maybe Paul is too busy socialising and doing lots of life affirming things," but no, I'm still here, just skulking in the shadows reading my friends page.

I have a pretty busy August planned though. Going to Newcastle in 2 weeks time for Ryan Maguire's stag weekend. I'm told that there are hundreds of bars filled with very cheap booze and very, very cheap women. I'm told the male to female ratio is 1:5. I'm reliably informed that if I'm unable to get a woman back to my hotel room there must be something wrong with me.

I think there is something wrong. I'm more excited by the go-karting we've booked for the Saturday.

Writer's Block: Planet's Rights [23 Jul 2008|10:31pm]

How do you feel about Pluto's recent demotion? Should it still be a planet?

Keep calling Pluto an asteroid and pretty soon it's going to start behaving like one.

With Friends [10 Jul 2008|12:23am]
My good friend Ryan Maguire is getting married at the end of August. I just finished buying a couple of wedding gifts online and I'm going to have to look about getting a suit for the wedding. He's the first of our group of friends to get hitched although there are a few others on the horizon. It's strange to see friends settling down and starting to lead responsible lives. Come on guys, quit growing up, you're scaring me!

Ryan and Bronagh got back from Canada so we all got together for a bit of night out. I discovered that because I've been staying in so much I can't really drink like I used to. I didn't get stupid drunk but I was definitely tipsy much quicker than usual.

Also pretty much all of my friends are couples. I've been trying to figure out what to do with the "Plus One" on the invitation and I'm probably just going to go by myself. Meh, maybe Bronagh has a few single friends?

Pictures From Saturday )

Apologies for not writing much, there isn't a great deal going on in my life at the moment worth putting down in writing. I shall resolve to address the issue.

Skewed Logic [22 Jun 2008|04:53pm]
Since Dark Knight is out next month and we're all desperately excited to see it;

Last night I was watching Batman fighting in Vietnam. Okay, actually it was Christian Bale running around the jungle a lot. Rescue Dawn was very well made, based on a true story. I guess I kind of spoiled it for myself because I saw Little Dieter Needs To Fly, a documentary on the same story, a few months back. Still, it was very watchable, I think in large part because of Christian Bale and Steve Zahn.

Also saw The Happening during the week. Not much to say without spoiling it but I reccommend you check it out. There are a few moments that are pretty damn chilling and the premise, whilst not a bit plausible, will get under your skin. There have been a few times in the past few days when I've been in my car and seen the wind blowing at the trees and felt a little tiny thrill.

That Would Be Awesome [20 Jun 2008|12:36am]
An Excerpt from "Me Write Book: It Bigfoot Memoir" which was a gift from the quite magnificent doomcupcake;

"Bigfoot compose rock ballad. Include tablature for clapping. Rock out.

That Would Be Awesome
Music and lyrics by Bigfoot

Hey baby can you no see there a teardrop in my eye?
Hey baby can you no see you baking sadness pie?
And it hot and it burn when I put it in my mouth
And it burn me insides tooooo
So put pie in window it need to cool for hour or two

And that would be awesome
Totally awesome
Possums are awesome, possums are awesome
But there thunder then there lightening
And wind blow the pie awaaay (repeat)
But if I wish up-on a rainbow
Maybe pie come back some daaay

*5 second pause*
Repeat chorus
7 minute clap solo"

Believe it or not this song really means something to me.
Paul.
